2nd place is not so bad ...

One of the pics of Lewes in the snow that I took back in January has come in second place in a competition in the 'South East Nature Photography' group on Flickr. I'm happy with that!

Here's the pic in question.

A Grand Day Out

Kestrel

My friend Clare and I went to the British Wildlife Centre in Surrey today, and I got to try out a new lens. I'm so proud of the kestrel pics I took, they really show how beautiful these surprisingly small birds of prey are.

What a difference a week makes!

Flooded fields at Landport

Taken yesterday at Landport in Lewes. These fields separate the river Ouse from the road and the housing estate, and as it has done after really extreme rain for as long as can be remembered, the river burst its banks on Tuesday, after heavy rain, and with the combination of high tides and the land already beijng sodden from the snow that thawed last week. Weird to see it like this, and stranger still that just a week before the flooding happened on Tuesday there was five inches of snow over the area!

Snowy days!

Looking towards Hamsey

Taken from Willey's Bridge in Lewes, on Monday 2nd Feb, after about 5" of snow - the most we've seen since 1991.

The whole of the set can be seen here.

An autumn walk ...

IMG_2798 copy

Taken on an autumn afternoon - I just loved the way the late afternoon sunshine added to the glorious colours of the trees in the park.

Taken the same afternoon as the previous pic, walking along the river Ouse, towards Hamsey, and looking back towards Lewes.

Lewes ....

I finally figured out how to use storyboard templates in Photoshop today, so now I'm having all sorts of fun finding free templates online and adding my own pics! Here's my first play, with a few photos of some of the historic parts of Lewes .... hope you like it!

Shameless Boasting!

A couple of weeks ago, I was contacted by a website called Now Public after one of their reporters had seen my photos from the first of the two Bon Jovi concerts at Twickenham. Now Public is a site where anyone can submit, or add, news stories, and photos to existing stories, but they actually asked for permission to include 21 of my photos in a slideshow accompanying a story about the free concert that Bon Jovi were doing in New York's Central Park on 12th July. Of course, I said yes ... it may be unpaid, but it's another place for people to see my photos online, and they all link back to my Flickr account. The story is here, but you may have already seen the pics at Flickr.

Today, after I got home from work, I had an email from an online travel guide company, Schmap, letting me know that this photo has been shortlisted for inclusion in the latest edition of their Dublin travel guide, and asking for confirmation that I want to submit it. Again, I said yes, as my view is that (almost!) any exposure is a good thing.

While I have a *huge* amount to learn yet, I think my photography is getting better steadily, and these two occurrences have been flattering, if nothing else. It's nice to have validation that my photos are liked by other people!
